Dr. Rowland Shank, Jr. is a native of the Shenandoah Valley who recently returned to Harrisonburg after 28 years of practice in Lancaster, PA.  He received a B.A. in Psychology from Messiah College in 1977.  Following a year as a mental health worker at Prairie View Mental Health Center in Newton, Kansas, he attended Fuller Theological Seminary’s dual degree program, where he received an M.A. in Theology [1983] and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology [1984].  Dr. Shank was a staff psychologist at Philhaven Hospital in Mt. Gretna, PA before entering private practice at Behavioral Healthcare Consultants in 1989.  From 1992 to 2012 he was one of seven partners at Behavioral Healthcare Consultants.

Dr. Shank has special interests and training in the following areas:

• Assessment and treatment of Adult ADHD

• Marital and couples therapy; premarital counseling

• Approaches to therapy that are informed by and based on Christian faith understandings [the integration of Psychology and Theology]

• Assessment and treatment of depression and other mood disorders

• Consultations with pastors and church congregations

• Assessment and treatment of personality and interpersonal problems

• Vocational assessment and counseling
